I’m very excited to share Treasured Tales for Young Adults‘ character interview with Suki. Suki is one of the characters from the amazing novel, Hunting Lila – written by the very talented Sarah Alderson. I love this novel.
I would like to thank Caroline from Simon & Schuster Australia for arranging the interview, Sarah Alderson for sharing Suki with Treasured Tales and, of course, Suki. 😀
If you haven’t read Huning Lila (definitely read it, it’s amazing) you may want to wait until you have read the novel before you read this character interview, as there are a couple of interview questions based on events in the novel.
Hi Suki. Thank you for stopping by Treasured Tales for Young Adults. Would you tell us a little about yourself and your psy ability?
OK, so let’s see. Wow, this is like being interviewed for Vogue. My name is Suki Nakamura. I was born in Tokyo but I came to LA two years ago after telling my parents I wanted to study English. Ahahahahahahahaha.
My favourite things are; shoes, the Lanvin Fall / Winter collection, out bitch-facing the Vivienne Westwood shop girls, playing Xbox with Nate because I can beat him every time even with my eyes closed and my hands tied behind my back. Oh and I also like spying on Jack and Alex. And shoes, did I mention that already? I like shoes.
One thing you might now know about me (because it’s actually a secret and we’re not supposed to tell anyone or Demos will have to go and mind freeze them and then have them sifted) is that I have a super hot mind power – I can read minds. Which actually is not as fun as it sounds, unless you’re in the proximity of Jack Loveday (filthy hot).
Expect a visit from Demos some time soon.
How would you describe your fashion style and, what is your favourite fashion accessory at the moment?
My fashion style is completely unique. I heard Demos one time call it bat shit crazy in his head but Demos knows nothing about fashion. He’s like vanilla fashion. When I met him all he wore was Gap. Now he wears Calvin Klein and Tom Ford – thanks to me. In fashion you have to take risks. Especially with shoes. I guess the words I would use to describe my aesthetic would be something like Lux-Grunge-Hipster-Chic (but not too grunge – I’m not like Taylor Momsen or anything). At the moment I am channelling Daisy from The Great Gatsby for my inspiration but cross referencing it with Lady Gaga.
My fashion accessory of the moment is a pair of red velvet Miu Miu mules from the spring/summer collection. They’re not in store yet but I got a pair straight off the catwalk. Harvey helped me *find* them.
What made you decide to join Demos and his team in the fight against the Unit?
He told me we would have costumes and that I could design them. He lied.
Who is your closest friend in Demos’ team?
Nate of course. He is my best friend even though he has no idea who Marc Jacobs is. He’d do anything for anyone he’s so sweet. But I have a soft spot for Demos too, is that how you say it? Everyone thinks he’s really mean but I know otherwise because I’ve been inside his head more times than Alicia even. Harvey is fun too. He’s very cool. He doesn’t say much – just chain smokes and wears sunglasses – but that man has a secret or two up his sleeve. He’s helped me a few times when my dad’s credit card has been declined.
Lila and Alex have decided to join you and the other members of Demos’ team in the fight to destroy the Unit – how do you feel about having Lila and Alex as part of the team?
Lila is so funny. What goes on in her head is truly mentalist and then, hilariously, it just comes straight out of her mouth uncensored. Like she has no pause button whatsoever. It’s fun having her around just for that alone. Plus it’s useful having someone who can flip tanks and carry my bags to the car. And Alex? Hello? You have seen Alex yes? He’s the uber-tron of megahotness. Plus he’s just as delicious on the inside. And I get to see him without his clothes on all the time because I just read Lila’s mind whenever I feel like it and that’s pretty much all she thinks about – Alex naked. But Nate gets to actually see him naked whenever he feels like it (shhhh that’s a secret too). Nate totally has the better super hot power. But don’t tell him I said that.
If you could give Lila one piece of advice when it comes to using her psy ability, what would it be?
To learn how to control it please. Because otherwise one of us is going to end up dead. And I don’t want to die just yet.
Thank you so much for the interview Suki. Would you like to send a message to your fans?
There’s a story all about ME called Catching Suki which is free right now to download. It’s megahot. Also check out the new Spring Summer collection for Proenza Schouler. It’s happy-making.
Thank you for the interview Suki. I love Suki’s answers; she is so much fun. As Suki mentioned, there is a short story which is currently available for free download called Catching Suki (I’ve read it, it’s fab).

Having spent most of her life in London, Sarah quit her job in the non profit sector in 2009 and took off on a round the world trip with her husband and princess-obsessed daughter on a mission to find a new place to call home. After several months in India, Singapore, Australia and the US, they settled in Bali where Sarah now spends her days writing by the pool and drinking lots of coconuts.
She finished her first novel Hunting Lila just before they left the UK, wrote the sequel on the beach in India, and had signed a two book deal with Simon & Schuster by the time they reached Bali.
A third book, Fated, about a teenage demon slayer, which was written during their stay in California, was published in January 2012 by Simon Pulse (an imprint of Simon & Schuster).
She is currently working on several exciting new book projects and screenplays.
