“What I love about ILLUMINATE’S Lucian”

The lovely Alishia asked me to introduce you to Lucian—the main crush object of my main character, Haven, in my novel ILLUMINATE. And, as I started thinking about it, I realized you probably kinda already know him. Lucian is that guy that you go to school to see every day. Every girl has had a Lucian in her life at one time or another—am I right, ladies? He’s the one you’re always watching out of the corner of your eye and the one who makes you melt if he so much as glances in your direction. He doesn’t seem to belong in your world, in your town, on this planet, in real life. Yes, he’s gorgeous, of course, but there’s more to it than that. He seems perfect…mostly because he doesn’t let you get very close to him. He’s mysterious, which makes him more alluring, because, well, everything makes him more alluring.

He’s that guy that you find yourself thinking about all the time, crowding out all of your other thoughts. He’s the one that your friends are sick of hearing about but you don’t care because you’re obsessed with him and you know that if he just got to know you, he would be madly in love with you. He should be madly in love with you. You spend every minute plotting how you could get him to fall madly in love with you. Because there must be a way, right?

But what I really love about ILLUMINATE’s Lucian is that Haven does actually get to know him. And when she does, her feelings get more….complicated. You’ll see. He surprises her, just as I’m hoping he’ll surprise you when you read. You’ll have to let me know what you think!

Author bio:

Aimee Agresti was voted “Quietest” of her high school class–probably because she spent too much time with her nose buried in books. Clearly, becoming a writer was the only possible choice. She now happily toggles between the realms of fact and fiction. The author of the young adult novel ILLUMINATE, she’s also a former Us Weekly staff writer and entertainment journalist.

She has interviewed everyone from Angelina Jolie and George Clooney to the stars of The Hills, and even penned Us Weekly magazine’s coffee table book Inside Hollywood.

She graduated from Northwestern University with a degree in journalism and lives with her husband and son in Washington, DC, where she can often be found skulking around the Smithsonian museums on slow writing days waiting for inspiration to strike.
