Captivate Blog Tour: Character Interview with Robbie

Hi everyone. *waves hello*  Today, as part of the Captivate Blog Tour, I have an interview with one of the main characters from Captivate – Robbie.  A big thank you to Polina from Harlequin Teen Australia for organising the tour, author Vanessa Garden for sharing Robbie with Treasured Tales and, of course, a huge thank you to Robbie for the interview.

Character Interview with Robbie

Hi Robbie, Welcome to Treasured Tales for Young Adults.  Would you tell us a little about yourself?

Thanks for having me, Alishia.

I live in a domed, underwater city and have done so since I was around eight years of age. I’m seventeen now, and head guard to Marko, the king of Marin. I take my job very seriously so there isn’t much down time, especially of late – there have never been so many threats to Marko’s throne. However, if I did have time on my hands I’d spend it sketching in my journal. I would really like to sketch a certain someone before I forget the details of her face.

You mentioned to Miranda that once you have been in Marin for a little while, there is a compulsion to stay – do you truly feel that Marin is your home now or is there a part of you that is tempted to use the shuttle to return to England?

I do sometimes get flashes of my past – faces mainly. I often see the face of a young, brown haired girl I believe is my sister. I do feel a little melancholic when I envision her, but Marin is my true home now. I can’t image ever leaving.

As Marko’s personal guard, you were given the responsibility to guard and protect Miranda – what was going through your mind those first few days when you had to keep vigil over her?

Basically I felt like the worst human being alive. I felt like a monster for bringing her to Marin. And I immediately felt indebted to her. So I pretty much became protective of her from day one.

Speaking of Miranda, what is the first word that comes to mind when you think of her?

I’d like to talk to you about your friendship with Marko – how would you describe Marko as a friend and also as a king?

Marko is family to me. We grew up side by side, like brothers, and I trust him completely. I can only hope he still has faith in me after what happened recently.  As a king, there is no one more honest and hardworking. He always puts the people of Marin’s needs before his own.

Can you ever truly forgive Marko for sentencing you to the same punishment as Philippe?

I have already forgiven him. There are certain things a king must do to ensure his people’s trust.

Do you trust Sylvia?

That’s a difficult question to answer. I have always looked upon Sylvia as a sort of mother figure – she’d been kind to me since the day I first arrived in Marin. But in the past couple of years, something has changed. I can’t quite pinpoint it, but there is a hungry gleam in her eye that makes me uncomfortable when I’m around her. So at the moment, no, I wouldn’t say I trust her.

What is your greatest wish for the city of Marin and also for yourself?

My greatest wish for Marin would be an end to the fertility crisis and safety for all civilians. My greatest wish for myself would be… to see a certain someone again. Someone I care for very much.

Thank you for the interview, Robbie.  Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas to you, Alishia. Thank you for having me.

I just love Robbie’s answers.  Captivate is a great read, and if you stop by the blog tomorrow, you can read my review.  😀

Captivate (Submerged Sun #1) by Vanessa Garden

Book description (from Goodreads) –

In a glittering underwater world, nothing is as it seems…

For the past twelve months since her parents’ death, seventeen-year-old Miranda Sun has harboured a dark secret — a secret that has strained the close relationship she once shared with her older sister, Lauren. In an effort to repair this broken bond, Miranda’s grandparents whisk the siblings away on a secluded beach holiday. Except before Miranda gets a chance to confess her life-changing secret, she’s dragged underwater by a mysterious stranger while taking a midnight swim.

Awakening days later, Miranda discovers that she’s being held captive in a glittering underwater city by an arrogant young man named Marko…the King of this underwater civilisation.

Nineteen-year-old Marko intends to marry Miranda in order to keep his crown from falling into the sinister clutches of his half-brother, Damir. There’s only one problem. Miranda is desperate to return home to right things with her sister and she wants nothing to do with Marko. Trying to secure her freedom, Miranda quickly forms an alliance with Robbie — Marko’s personal guard. However, she soon discovers that even underwater, people are hiding dangerous secrets…
